Multi-faceted end-of-year trips cap off the academic school year for KIPP Impact middle school students. More substantive than field trips, they are referred to as Field Lessons by KIPP teachers and students. Each trip integrates history, culture and college preparation, and is carefully planned well in advance. Multi-day travel to large, metropolitan cities on the east coast offer students exposure to important historical sites, local culture and an array of college tours.
This year, 6th graders added dimension to their Civil Rights studies with a 4-day trip to Atlanta. Among their stops: CNN studios, the aquarium, the Holocaust Museum, Morehouse and Spelman Colleges.
7th graders spent an action-packed 5 days in Washington, DC. Smithsonian Museums on the mall, the National Zoo, Howard University, Arlington Cemetery and a tour of the Capitol building were among the featured activities.
KIPP Impact 8th graders finished their middle school career with an exciting, week-long trip to Philadelphia and New York City. Tours of the University of Pennsylvania, Lady Liberty, Central Park, MoMA, NYU and the Museum of Natural History left them both exhausted and hungry for more Big City adventures in their future.
