For the third consecutive year, the KIPP Impact Middle School band program performed at the city’s annual Music Performance Assessment conducted by the Florida Bandmaster’s Association. This year, KIPP Impact sent two bands to perform: its 6th grade band and a band composed of KIPP 7th and 8th graders.
At KIPP Impact Middle School, all students receive one hour of instrumental music instruction every school day. With an extended school day, KIPP students are able to receive top quality arts instruction that complement daily teaching in reading, writing, math and science. Our band program is core to delivering KIPP’s mission to prepare our students with the skills, knowledge, habits and character to succeed in college and in life.
Over time, our students make remarkable progress as musicians, while building skills and habits that will take them far in life. Please view the below two videos to see our progress over time. The first video is our students’ first attempt to play a musical note during the 5th grade in the fall of 2010. The second video is a piece that was played at the Assessment in March 2014.
