ENROLLMENT FAQ
What are my child’s transportation options?
We offer free bus transportation for all students K-12 at all KIPP Jacksonville Public schools. Please click here for the proposed stops available at each school. Parents may also drop off and pick up their students. Additional information about bus routes and parent pickup and drop off will be sent to parents in the weeks leading up to the first day of school.
Bus route and stop information is subject to change as we respond to the needs of our families.
Will my child qualify for free or reduced lunch?
All students at KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools are eligible for free breakfast, lunch, and students who participate in afterschool programs will receive a snack through the Federal Title I program. Parents do not need to fill out any forms to apply for free or reduced breakfast and lunch. Students can also bring their lunch. Food deliveries (i.e. Door Dash, Uber Eats, etc.) are not permitted.
What are my options for before and afterschool care?
Through a partnership with the YMCA, we are able to offer discounted rates for afterschool care at all K-8 academies. REGISTER HERE.
How does KIPP Jacksonville educate children with learning disabilities?
Each school has a designated special education lead for children experiencing learning difficulties. Students having difficulty in the regular classroom should be considered for tutorial, compensatory, and other academic or behavior support services that are available to all students through our Response to Intervention (RtI) process. The implementation of RtI has the potential to have a positive impact on the ability of local education agencies to meet the needs of all struggling students. If a child does not respond appropriately to general education interventions, the next step may be a referral for a special education evaluation.
KIPP Jacksonville also offers special services to support children who qualify for the gifted program.
How will I know if my student is performing well academically ?
Teachers give students and parents ongoing feedback about student performance. Teachers often send work home for parents to sign, and teachers contact parents if they see a significant slip in academic performance or the recurrence of an intellectual habit or character trait that inhibits the student’s progress.
Parents get informal feedback about K-8 student behavior throughout the year in the form of weekly Live School paycheck/ClassDojo reports. Parents will receive progress reports bi-weekly in the Wednesday Folder. Parents can log into their Illuminate Parent Portal to check grades at any time and we encourage parents to reach out to a teacher at any time to get clarity about grades.
Parent-teacher conferences may be scheduled at any point during the school year. During conferences, parents will have the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with the teacher. Working collaboratively, parents, teachers, and students will problem-solve to determine strategies to maximize the performance of the scholar.
How does KIPP Jacksonville address behavior issues to keep all students safe?
KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools follows the Duval County Public Schools’ code of conduct. A copy of the
code of conduct will be given to every family and posted on our website. KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools will use the code of conduct as a
guide if student behavioral expectations are not met. It is our belief that if a student disrupts the educational environment and prevents others from learning then the student will face the appropriate discipline.
Our behavior continuum consists of restorative practices and punitive consequences. Consequences are
based on the level of infraction and can include character education, campus beautification, restorative
assignments, behavior referrals, ISS, OSS, mandatory parent conferences, behavior contracts, or dismissal
from KIPP Jacksonville Public Schools.
